Aboriginal mitogenome analysis shows 50,000 years of connection to country
16 March 2017Genomic analysis of hair samples collected from Australian Aboriginals across the nation have indicated that cultural connection to country has existed for as many as 50,000 years.
The Aboriginal Heritage Project, led by the University of Adelaide’s Australian Centre for Ancient DNA recently published their findings in the journal Nature (online 8th March 2017). AGRF is proud to be associated with the work as part of an ARC linkage grant, with the AGRF’s Operations Manager Dr John Stephen as a Partner Investigator.

This is the first step towards a larger vision of establishing a South Australian-based genomics hub that delivers research and outcomes to the agriculture and environmental sectors.
The two research projects at the University of Adelaide will use leading genomic expertise and technologies to benefit the wine industry and biodiversity conservation.

30 September 2014Melbourne 30/09/2014 – Today the Australian Genome Research Facility (AGRF) and the Garvan Institute of Medical Research (Garvan) announce they will be collaborating to facilitate Australia's access to whole human genome sequencing – a transformational new advance in genomic science.
This partnership will combine AGRF’s national genomics infrastructure with the sequencing power of the HiSeqTM X Ten fleet located in the Kinghorn Centre for Clinical Genomics at the Garvan Institute to provide simplified access to the broader community of Australian genomic researchers.

1,000 milestone recognised
14 October 2013Recently we celebrated two of our long-standing customers reaching the 1,000 milestone of batch submissions. Jenny Leary's Familial Cancer Services Laboratory, Westmead Hospital and Bruce Bennetts' Department of Molecular Genetics, Children's Hospital Westmead were presented with a DNA trophy in recognition of this achievement.
