Grape and Olive Identification
Grape
Genetic testing is an assured way of accurate identification; this is of particular significance for the wine industry. Legally, Australian wines must be labelled with the primary varietals used in their production.
AGRF tests for over 200 grapevine varietals of scion and rootstock of relevance in Australia.
Applications
- Identification of stock in vineyards and nurseries
- Identifying heritage vines in old properties
Olive
Enabling the genetic identification of cultivars from 55 named olive varieties grown in Australia.
Applications
- Identification of the varietals in an olive grove (particularly
before investing)
- Add further stock to an existing grove - especially if they have demonstrated good fruit yields
- Identify the varietal in your backyard
The AGRF human sample identification service uses the Agena ExomeID panel, a selection of 44 markers (+gender markers) that can uniquely barcode individual human samples. Once tested, samples can be tracked through processing, ensuring sample mix-ups or incorrect annotations can be detected early.
Applications
- Sample tracking and identification
- Monitoring human cell lines
- Facilitating direct chain-of-custody matching in exome sequencing/microarray data
- Biobanking
AGRF offers this service using the Infinium QC Array-24, a cost-effective way to perform sample tracking, quality control and stratification.
Applications
The array comprises of 15,949 markers, offering markers focused on high-value functional content including:
- Sex determination
- Ethnic ancestry
- Linkage
- ADME
Bacteria contain the 16S ribosomal RNA gene (16S), which contains conserved and variable regions. Detection of the conserved region enables all bacterial kingdoms from within a sample to be detected, identification of the variable regions enables deeper taxonomic resolution.
AGRF can screen bacterial sample to the genus / species level via a nucleic acid based sequencing method.
16S Sequencing
DNA sequencing of the 16S component of the bacterial genome has become the ideal tool for microbial identification.
The Mouse Linkage Marker Set (MLMS) is a SNP panel used to perform mouse linkage-mapping studies.
The panel is run using our NATA accredited Sequenom SNP genotyping service. The SNPs have been carefully selected to maximise the polymorphism between common inbred strains.
Applications
- Speed congenics
- Preferential animal selection for breeding
- Validation of in house mouse strains, ensuring consistency with established reference strains
- Combine with our fine mapping service to map mouse genome targeted regions
The non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse is genetically predisposed to the development of autoimmune diabetes making it a useful model for studying the disease.
A number of genomic loci in the NOD mouse have been identified that play a role in development and progression of diabetes. These regions are referred to as Idd (Insulindependent diabetes associated) regions. More than 19 chromosomal intervals (Idd regions) have been identified that contribute to diabetes susceptibility.
Applications
- Commonly researchers will breed NOD with the nonautoimmune
- C57BL/6 mice to focus on one or more of these intervals.
- The markers in the panel allow tracking of these regions through breeding cycles.
Pharmacogenomics ADME PGx Pro panel
The iPLEX ADME PGx Pro Panel is a comprehensive panel for genotyping pharmacogenetic biomarkers associated with drug metabolism.
The panel comprises a set of pre-designed SNP and CNV assays. For projects that investigate pharmacogenetic variations, the Agena Bioscience MassARRAY System enables cost-effective detection of germline variations that cause differences in drug distribution, efficacy, metabolism, and toxicity.
Applications
Using pre-designed iPLEX ADME PGx panels from Agena Biosciences:
- Routine pharmocogenetic testing to determine drug metabolizer status
- Validation of your own PGx markers
- Screen hundreds of samples economically
Validate your in house rat strains, ensuring consistency with established reference strains and/ or select your preferential animal for breeding. The Rat ID panel is a panel of 47 SNPs that can be used to genetically distinguish common rat strains.
Applications
- Breeding selection
- Validation of strains
